App for tradespeople: jobs, hours and construction log straight from the job site

Timesheets in the footwell, photos on private phones, material notes on the delivery slip – that’s how time and money slip away in many businesses. We develop apps that map your exact workflows and connect to what you already use in the office.

Short & clear

A good app for tradespeople works where the work happens: in a basement with no signal, with work gloves on and in just a few taps – from the job to time tracking and photos to the customer’s signature. What matters is that the data reaches the office, the invoice and your existing software without retyping. A lean web app with a few core functions can start at Nano Concepts in the Starter package from €2,500; a technician app with offline sync and interfaces usually falls into the Professional package from €8,000 – the exact quote follows after the free initial consultation.

App for Tradespeople with Nano Concepts

The workday in a trades business often starts with phone calls: Who goes to which job site, where is the key, what material is still missing? In the evening come the timesheets that someone in the office has to decipher and type up. An app for tradespeople bundles jobs, addresses, contacts and notes on the smartphone or tablet of every technician. Changes from the office arrive immediately, follow-up questions become rarer, and the “job done” message is there before the van is back in the yard.

Time tracking in particular is a perennial issue: under rulings of the German Federal Labor Court, employers have to record working hours, and for the invoice the hours per job are what count. A good app handles both with one tap – start of work, breaks, travel time and time per job site. Add to that photos before and after, a digital construction log, material usage and the customer’s signature on the display. From this, the invoice is created in the office without anyone having to ask follow-up questions.

We have already developed a native service technician app for iOS and Android with offline sync, which stores working hours and photo documentation locally and syncs them as soon as there is a signal again. That experience goes into every app for tradespeople: in a shell construction with no reception, in the boiler room, in a rural dead zone. Frankly, a ready-made trades app is often enough for a one-person business. A custom solution pays off when your workflows are special, several teams need to be coordinated or the app is meant to exchange data with existing software.

What matters with App for Tradespeople

Works offline

Job sites, basements and underground garages often have no reception. The app has to keep working without a network and sync automatically later, without data being duplicated or lost.

Usable with gloves on

Large buttons, few steps, easy to read in sunlight. Anything that takes too long on the job site doesn’t get used.

Traceable time tracking

Working hours, breaks and hours per job must not be editable afterward without anyone noticing, and they must be exportable. How you structure time recording under labor law is something to clarify with your legal advisor; this does not replace legal advice.

Privacy for team and customers

Location data, photos from customers’ homes and signatures are sensitive. Roles, retention periods and hosting in Germany or the EU belong in the concept; GPS tracking only if it is necessary and regulated.

Connection to office and accounting

Hours and materials need to reach your trades software, your quoting program or DATEV (the widely used German accounting software). Without an interface, the app is just another island.

Features

These are the features we build for you

Job list and daily plan

Every technician sees their jobs with address, navigation, contact person, access instructions and documents.

Time tracking per job

Start, break, travel and end with one tap; the hours land directly with the right job and in the payroll reporting.

Construction log and photo documentation

Photos with date and job reference, weather, people on site, defects and notes – as a clean PDF for site management or the client.

Material tracking

Record materials used via a selection list or barcode so that they appear on the invoice and get reordered on time.

Signature and acceptance

Have work reports, time-and-material reports or acceptance protocols signed on site and sent automatically to the customer and the office.

Office view and interfaces

In the browser you see status, hours and open items; the data flows into your software for quotes and invoices.

Practical examples

Here's what that looks like day to day

Maintenance rounds at a heating business

A heating contractor has many maintenance appointments in the fall and loses time on paper inspection reports. In the app, the technicians fill out the report, photograph the rating plate and have it signed – the office can bill on the same day.

Electrician on a new build with no signal

An electrical business works for weeks on a large job site without stable reception. Hours, photos and the construction log are recorded offline and sync automatically as soon as the team has a signal again.

Self-employed tile setter

A self-employed tradesperson no longer wants to piece together hours and materials from scraps of paper in the evening. A lean app with time tracking, photos and an export for the invoice is often enough here – they don’t need expensive special functions.

Process

Four steps to your solution

  1. Job site checkIn the free initial consultation and, if you like, at an on-site appointment, we document how jobs run today and where time is lost.
  2. Clickable prototypeBefore anything is programmed, your technicians test a clickable draft. That way we find out early what doesn’t work on the job site.
  3. Development with a pilot teamWe build the core functions first and let one team test them in real everyday work before everyone switches.
  4. Rollout and supportDistribution via the App Store, Google Play or as a web app, a short briefing for the team and ongoing maintenance.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about App for Tradespeople

The cost depends on how many functions, roles and interfaces are needed and whether the app has to work offline. A lean web app can start in the Starter package from €2,500; a technician app with offline sync and a connection to your software usually falls into the Professional package from €8,000. The exact quote – preferably at a fixed price – follows after the free initial consultation.

For standard workflows there are ready-made apps for tradespeople that cover jobs and hours well – feel free to test them first. A custom app pays off if you have special processes, such as inspection reports, time-and-material reports or several trades, or if the data should flow automatically into your existing software.

Yes, and for sole proprietors a ready-made solution with time tracking, photos and an invoicing function is often enough. In that case, we honestly advise against building something custom. A custom app makes sense once you grow and want to include employees, subcontractors or special documentation.

Yes. Photos, weather, attendance, progress and delays are recorded per day and job site and exported as a PDF. That gives you clean documentation in the case of change orders or disputes.

The app supplies hours, materials and the signature; your office creates the invoice in your existing software or in a custom module. For B2B e-invoicing in Germany, we connect formats such as XRechnung or ZUGFeRD. Tax details are something to clarify with your tax advisor.

Yes, if it is built for it. The data is stored locally on the device and synced as soon as a connection is available again – that is also how the service technician app with offline sync that we developed works.
