Short & clear

Software maintenance covers all the work that keeps software usable after it goes live: fixing bugs, applying dependency and security updates, adapting the software to new systems and requirements, and developing features further. Nano Concepts takes over the maintenance of custom software, web applications and apps with a dedicated contact person, allowance and response times defined in the maintenance contract. Ongoing maintenance contracts are quoted individually based on scope in the Enterprise package, while taking over third-party software with a code review and stabilization falls under the Starter package from €2,500 or Professional from €8,000, depending on effort.

Software maintenance with Nano Concepts

Software maintenance keeps an application usable, secure and adaptable in the long term after go-live. The ISO/IEC 14764 standard distinguishes four types: corrective maintenance fixes bugs, adaptive maintenance adapts the software to new operating systems, interfaces or requirements, perfective maintenance improves functions and usability, and preventive maintenance eliminates weaknesses before they cause problems. In a software maintenance contract, we define which of these services you need and to what extent – for custom software, web applications, portals and apps.

01

The upkeep of dependencies is especially underestimated. Modern software consists to a large extent of frameworks and libraries such as Laravel, Symfony, React or Node.js, which regularly receive security updates and whose older versions eventually lose support. We keep these dependencies up to date, verify updates with automated tests and schedule larger version jumps in good time. That way you avoid technical debt piling up over the years until an upgrade eventually becomes as costly as a rebuild.

02

We also take over software that other service providers or former employees developed. First we secure the source code, access and documentation, review code quality, tests and servers, and write down any missing knowledge. Then we stabilize the system and start ongoing maintenance with a dedicated contact person, a ticket system and an allowance for further development. That makes software maintenance costs predictable: you pay for a defined scope instead of expensive emergency call-outs. If replacing the software is more economical than continuing to maintain it, we will tell you openly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Software maintenance

Software maintenance costs depend on the size and condition of the application, the response times you want and the allowance for further development. We therefore quote ongoing maintenance contracts individually based on scope in the Enterprise package. The one-time takeover of third-party software with a code review and stabilization falls under the Starter package from €2,500 or Professional from €8,000, depending on effort; the exact quote follows after the free initial consultation.

A software maintenance contract should regulate the scope of services, response and processing times, reporting channels, allowance, billing and how further development is handled. Access to source code and documentation as well as provisions for the end of the contract are also important. We help you word the technical content in plain language; the legal review is for your legal counsel. This does not replace legal advice.

Maintenance preserves the existing functionality: fixing bugs, applying security updates and adapting the software to changed environments. Further development extends the software with new features. In practice, we combine both in one contract, with a clear separation in the allowance.

Yes. We first review code, tests, dependencies and servers and document the current state. Then we stabilize the software and take over ongoing maintenance – or recommend modernization if continued maintenance would be uneconomical.

Assessment and stabilization usually take a few days to a few weeks, depending on the size and condition of the application. After that, ongoing maintenance starts within the agreed framework. We give you a realistic schedule after the initial review.

We set response and processing times individually in the maintenance contract, graded by the severity of the bug. Thanks to error monitoring, we detect many problems before they are reported. Binding commitments apply where they have been agreed in the contract.
