Short & clear

In a Shopware 5 to 6 migration, products, categories, customers and orders are transferred to a new Shopware 6 store using the official Migration Assistant, while the theme and plugins have to be rebuilt or replaced, because Shopware 6 is a completely redeveloped platform. Since Shopware 5 has not been developed further since the end of July 2024, the switch brings your store back onto a platform with regular updates and security fixes. Small stores with few extensions can fall under the Starter package from €2,500, migrations with a custom theme, plugins and integrations under the Professional package from €8,000 – the exact quote follows after the free initial consultation.

Shopware 5 to 6 migration with Nano Concepts

A Shopware 5 to 6 migration is not an ordinary update but a move to a newly developed platform. Shopware 6 is based on Symfony, uses an administration built on Vue.js and Twig templates in the storefront – themes and plugins from Shopware 5 don't run there. The data itself, on the other hand, transfers well: with the official Migration Assistant, we carry products, variants, categories, customers, orders and media over to the new store. So the greatest effort isn't the data but the theme, extensions and integrations.

01

Shopware ended development of Shopware 5 at the end of July 2024. Regular updates have not been available since then, and with every new PHP version, every change among payment providers and every new requirement for online stores, the gap grows. Anyone planning the switch from Shopware 5 to 6 should therefore approach it as a project with a clear roadmap: an inventory of all plugins and customizations, a decision on replacement, rebuild or dropping each one, then migration to a test store and only at the end the switch in live operation.

02

We use the migration to get rid of legacy baggage. Some functions that needed a plugin in Shopware 5 are already covered by Shopware 6 as standard, for example through Flow Builder, Rule Builder or Shopping Experiences. Others we replace with extensions from the Shopware Store or build anew. On request, LOMA DESIGN builds the theme in a more modern, mobile-friendly way. So that your visibility in search engines doesn't suffer unnecessarily, we carry over SEO URLs where possible and set up 301 redirects for changed addresses. We test integrations with ERP, payment and shipping in the test store.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Shopware 5 to 6 migration

The cost depends less on the number of products than on theme, plugins and integrations. Small stores with few extensions can fall under the Starter package from €2,500; we price migrations with a custom theme, several plugins and ERP integration under the Professional package from €8,000, and large stores individually as an Enterprise project. After the free initial consultation and a migration check, you receive a transparent quote.

No, there is no direct update. Shopware 6 is a newly developed platform: data is transferred with the Migration Assistant, while theme and plugins must be rebuilt or replaced. That is why we plan the switch as a project of its own, with a test store.

The data transfer itself is usually the smallest part. The duration depends mainly on how many plugins need to be replaced or rebuilt and whether the theme is redesigned. After the migration check you receive a schedule with a fixed switchover date.

Plugins and themes from Shopware 5 are not compatible with Shopware 6. For each plugin, we check whether Shopware 6 already includes the function, whether there is an extension in the Shopware Store or whether we build it anew. We rebuild your design as a Shopware 6 theme.

There is mainly a risk when URLs change and no redirects are set up. We carry over existing SEO URLs where possible, set up 301 redirects for changed addresses and check Search Console after go-live. That creates good conditions for search engines to reassign your pages cleanly.

No. Your Shopware 5 store keeps running while we build Shopware 6 in parallel in a test store. On the switchover date, we reconcile the latest orders and customers and then switch over – ideally in a quiet time window.
