Short & clear

A cloud migration is the planned relocation of servers, applications and data from your own server room or conventional hosting to a cloud provider. It starts with an assessment of dependencies, costs and data protection, defines a strategy for each application such as rehost, replatform or refactor, and ends with a tested switchover. At Nano Concepts, projects usually fall under the Professional package from €8,000 or are priced individually as Enterprise; the exact quote follows after the free initial consultation.

Cloud migration with Nano Concepts

A cloud migration moves servers, applications and data from your own server room or conventional hosting to a cloud provider – with the aim of scaling more flexibly, reducing the risk of outages and cutting operating effort. To make that work, we don't start with the move but with a cloud migration assessment: we capture applications, dependencies, data volumes, licenses and security requirements and compare today's operating costs with the expected cloud costs. The result is a clear recommendation on which systems should move and in what order.

01

The strategy emerges from the assessment – and it is rarely the same for all systems. Some applications move largely unchanged to virtual servers (rehost), others benefit from managed services such as databases or containers (replatform), and still others should be rethought or replaced with a ready-made solution. Recommending that a system deliberately not be migrated is also part of honest cloud migration consulting. That way, you invest where the cloud actually brings advantages.

02

When choosing the provider, we consider performance, costs and data protection: AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud operate data centers in Germany, and European providers such as Hetzner, IONOS or STACKIT are further options. The switchover happens in waves, with a test migration, an agreed time window and a documented fallback plan. We describe the infrastructure as code so that it stays traceable and reproducible – and, if you wish, we also take over operations after the move. We gain experience in continuous operation with our own platforms such as KreditKoala.de, which have to be available around the clock.

Scope of services

What we deliver for you

Assessment, strategy and migration of your servers and applications to the cloud – in German data centers on request.

Cloud migration assessment

Inventory of all servers, applications and dependencies, evaluation of cloud suitability and a comparison of current and expected operating costs.

Migration strategy per application

For each system, we decide whether it is moved, modernized, replaced or deliberately not migrated – with a clear rationale.

Target architecture & provider selection

Network, servers, managed services, storage and access rights – matched to your requirements for cost, performance and data location.

Infrastructure as code

The cloud environment is described with Terraform, versioned and built reproducibly – instead of by clicking through management consoles.

Test migration & switchover

A trial run with real data, an agreed switchover window and a documented fallback plan for every migration wave.

Security, backup & monitoring

Access concept, encryption, automatic backups and monitoring, so that operations run stably after the move.

Your benefits

Why companies choose us

Decisions based on facts

The assessment shows which systems benefit from the cloud and which do not – before money goes into the move.

Scaling on demand

Resources grow with load peaks and new applications, without you having to buy new hardware.

No move into the unknown

Test migrations and fallback plans keep the risk of each switchover under control.

Data location of your choice

On request, we run your systems in German or European data centers and document where which data resides.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Cloud migration

A cloud migration assessment is the inventory taken before the move: it captures all servers, applications and dependencies, evaluates their cloud suitability and compares costs, risks and effort. The result is a well-founded decision on what is migrated, how and in what order.

The costs depend on the number and complexity of applications, data volumes and security requirements. An assessment with a migration plan for a manageable environment is possible in the Starter package from €2,500, the migration of several applications usually falls under the Professional package from €8,000, and we price large landscapes individually as Enterprise. The exact quote follows after the free initial consultation; we estimate the ongoing cloud costs separately in the assessment.

Common ones are rehost (move without changes), replatform (move with small adjustments, for example to managed databases), refactor (rebuild for the cloud), repurchase (replace with a ready-made solution), retain (keep for now) and retire (shut down). We decide which strategy fits for each application individually. In practice, a migration usually combines several of them.

That can't be answered across the board, because data protection compliance depends on the contract, data location, access and your own configuration. AWS, Azure and Google Cloud operate data centers in Germany, and European providers such as Hetzner, IONOS or STACKIT are further options. We document the technical implementation for your data protection records – the legal assessment belongs with your data protection officer. Our information does not replace legal advice.

An assessment is usually completed in a few weeks. The migration itself depends on the number of applications and happens in waves, so that not everything is switched over at once. You will receive a reliable timeline together with the migration plan.

Not automatically. The cloud saves money above all when resources are matched to demand, systems that aren't needed are shut down and managed services are used sensibly. If you move servers one-to-one without changes, you may end up paying more – which is why a cost comparison is a fixed part of the assessment.
