Headless commerce: your store platform as the engine, your frontend without limits

We put a custom, fast frontend in front of Shopify, Shopware or another store platform that manages products, cart and orders in the background. This gives you design freedom and speed without giving up proven store logic.

Short & clear

Headless commerce means that the frontend and the store backend are separate: the store platform, such as Shopify or Shopware, delivers products, prices and cart via APIs, and a custom frontend – often built with Next.js – displays them. This pays off when you have high demands on design, load time or multiple channels. At Nano Concepts, such projects typically fall under the Professional package from €8,000 or are priced individually as Enterprise; the exact quote follows after the free initial consultation.

Headless commerce with Nano Concepts

Headless commerce separates what customers see from what does the calculating in the background. Your store platform – for example Shopify or Shopware – continues to manage products, prices, stock levels, cart and orders. In front of it, we build a custom frontend that retrieves this data through interfaces and delivers it with a free design. The result is a headless store that no longer has to stay within the limits of a theme and combines content, products and brand world the way your marketing needs.

01

Technically, we mostly rely on React and Next.js: pages are generated in advance or on the server, delivered through a CDN and therefore load quickly even on a smartphone. For headless Shopify, we use the Storefront API, and checkout stays with Shopify – secure and well maintained. With headless Shopware, the frontend works with the Store API. Editorial content such as lookbooks, guides or campaign pages comes from a headless CMS on request, so your team can maintain it without a developer.

02

Headless commerce is not the right choice for every store, though. A custom frontend means more development effort, and some apps or plugins that hook into a theme do not work headless without further effort. That is why we first check whether a well-optimized theme is enough. If the separation pays off – for example with multiple countries, brands, an app or a highly individual design – we design the frontend with LOMA DESIGN and develop it at Nano Concepts in Dudenhofen.

Your benefits

Why companies choose us

Design without theme limits

We implement product pages, categories and brand worlds the way the design intends – not the way a theme allows.

Speed as a foundation

Pre-rendered pages and delivery through a CDN create good conditions for short load times and strong Core Web Vitals.

One backend, many channels

The same product data feeds your website, app, in-store terminal or marketplace feeds, without double maintenance.

Proven store logic stays

Orders, payments and stock levels continue to run through the established store platform – you do not rebuild everything.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Headless commerce

Headless commerce is a store architecture in which the frontend is separated from the store platform. The backend manages products, prices and orders and makes them available via APIs, and a custom frontend displays them to customers. This lets you shape design, load time and channels independently of the store platform.

Headless commerce takes more effort than a theme-based store because the frontend is developed individually. Projects therefore usually fall under the Professional package from €8,000, and we price platforms with multiple countries, brands or apps individually as Enterprise. The exact quote follows after the free initial consultation; we list ongoing costs for the store plan, CMS and hosting separately.

If you need a design or features that a theme cannot deliver, or you serve multiple channels, yes. Checkout stays with Shopify, and Next.js handles the presentation. For a store with standard requirements, however, a well-optimized Shopify theme is often more economical – we will tell you that openly in the initial consultation.

Shopify scores with low operating effort and a well-maintained checkout, Shopware with deep customizability, B2B features and the option to self-host. The decision depends on your assortment, pricing logic, countries and your team. We compare both against your requirements.

A headless frontend takes shape in several iterations, over a few weeks to months depending on scope. Existing product data and order processes remain in the store platform, which speeds up the start. We give you a binding timeline after the headless check.

Not all of them. Apps that work only in the theme, for example for reviews or product recommendations, have to be connected in the frontend through their API or replaced. Apps in the backend, for example for shipping or accounting, usually keep running unchanged.
