Multilingual Website: Be Found and Understood in Every Language

A website that speaks only German often loses international customers, partners and applicants on the home page. We build multilingual websites with a dedicated address per language, clean hreflang and a maintenance process that keeps working after launch.

Short & clear

A multilingual website offers its content in several languages – with separate, translated URLs, hreflang tags, a language switcher and translated forms and emails. Nano Concepts implements structure, technology and maintenance process; you or your translation agency supply the texts, or alternatively they are created with AI support followed by a review. Projects usually fall under the Professional package from €8,000; you will receive the exact quote after the free initial consultation.

Multilingual website with Nano Concepts

Creating a multilingual website means building a full version of your presence for each language – not just a translation button. Each language gets its own translated addresses such as /en/services/ instead of a copy with a German path, plus hreflang tags that allow Google to show visitors the matching language version, and a language switcher that leads to the corresponding subpage instead of the home page. Forms, error messages, confirmation emails and the cookie notice also appear in the visitor's language. That way your company looks complete and professional in every market.

01

Translation alone is not enough for search. Customers in Spain or the UK search with their own terms, which a word-for-word translation often misses. Together with LOMA DESIGN, we therefore identify the most important search terms per language and adapt headings, meta tags and addresses accordingly. You or your translation agency supply the texts; alternatively, we create AI-assisted translations that are reviewed before publication – ideally by native speakers on your team. A clear maintenance process is essential: when a German page changes, it is immediately visible which language versions need to catch up.

02

Our own website shows how this works at scale: Nanoconcepts.de is fully implemented in German, English and Spanish – with translated addresses, language switcher, hreflang and separate sitemaps per language. We use this experience for company websites, portals and multilingual online stores, whether with WordPress, Shopware, Shopify, a headless CMS or as a static website. We also set up date, number and currency formats, fonts with all special characters and web analytics per language, so that you can see which markets your inquiries come from.

Scope of services

What we deliver for you

Separate URLs per language, hreflang, translated forms and local search terms – so international customers can find and understand you.

Language & Market Strategy

We clarify which markets need which language, which content is translated and whether subdirectories, subdomains or country domains fit.

Translated URLs & hreflang

Each language gets its own addresses and reciprocal hreflang references including x-default, so that search engines can serve the right version.

Language Switcher Without Coercion

The switcher leads to the matching page in the other language; instead of a forced redirect, we discreetly suggest visitors their language.

Forms, Emails & System Texts

Contact forms, error messages, confirmation emails, cookie notice and booking flows speak the visitor's language throughout.

Local Search Terms & Meta Tags

With LOMA DESIGN, we identify the terms customers search for in each market and adapt titles, descriptions and headings.

Maintenance Process & Sitemaps per Language

A translation status shows which pages need to catch up; separate XML sitemaps per language keep indexing clean.

Process

How your project works

  1. Define Markets & LanguagesWe clarify target markets, languages and the scope per language. Not every page has to be in every language.
  2. Structure & Search TermsURL scheme, hreflang plan and search terms per language are defined. Translated addresses and meta tags result from this.
  3. Translation & ReviewTexts come from you, your translation agency or, AI-assisted, from us. Every version is approved for content before going live.
  4. Implementation & TestingWe implement the language versions and test forms and emails. A crawl checks all hreflang references.
  5. Launch & Maintenance ProcessAfter going live, we monitor indexing per language. A translation status keeps all versions up to date.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Multilingual website

What matters are separate, preferably translated URLs per language, correct hreflang tags between all language versions and fully translated content, including forms and emails. Added to that are search terms that are really used in the respective market. Without a fixed maintenance process, language versions quickly become outdated, which is why we plan one in from the start.

A multilingual company website with translated URLs, hreflang, forms and maintenance process usually falls under the Professional package from €8,000. A compact website with one additional language may be possible in the Starter package from €2,500; large portals and stores with many markets are priced individually as Enterprise. We clarify which variant fits in the free initial consultation – after that you will receive a transparent quote.

For a typical company website, technology and structure are often in place within a few weeks. The schedule is usually determined by the translation: if reviewed texts are available early, the launch goes faster. We therefore plan translation, review and implementation as one joint process with fixed dates.

We are not a translation agency; we build the structure and technology. You or your translation agency supply the texts; alternatively, we create AI-assisted translations that should be reviewed before publication – ideally by native speakers. That keeps it clearly settled who is responsible for quality and technical terminology.

With hreflang, you tell search engines in the source code or in the sitemap which language or country versions of a page exist. Each version should point to all the others and to itself, otherwise the tags can be ignored. We set up hreflang including x-default and check all references by crawl.

For many company websites, WordPress with WPML or Polylang is a solid choice, and multilingual online stores run well with Shopware or Shopify Markets. With many languages, markets or pages, headless CMS and static generators play to their strengths. We recommend the solution that fits scope, team and budget, and explain the choice in the concept.
