Dinslaken lies on the northwestern edge of the Ruhr area, about 15 kilometers north of Duisburg, and belongs to the Wesel district. Coal mining ended with the closure of the Lohberg colliery at the turn of 2005/2006; the city is developing the site and its spoil heaps together with RAG Montan Immobilien, among other things as the Kreativ.Quartier for service providers, engineering firms and skilled-trade businesses. In industry, metal production and processing as well as electrical engineering long counted among the largest sectors, while retail, services and healthcare provide much of the employment. The Dinslaken-Nord interchange on the A 3 motorway connects the city well to the long-distance road network.
